The ACNO is responsible for overseeing the clinical operations for hospital and outpatient psychiatric services and meeting strategic, clinical and financial goals. As a member of the nursing administration team, the ACNO creates an engaging environment in which the healthcare team is able to practice safely, effectively, and efficiently. The ACNO is responsible for ensuring adherence to nursing care standards as well as state and federal regulations and promoting evidence based practice in the clinical setting. Like all components of Cambridge Health Alliance, we strive to provide patient-centered, evidence-based care in a system devoted to improving the health of the communities we serve. As an appointing department of Harvard Medical School, we have a diverse and vibrant faculty that has established a standard of excellence in teaching, recognized throughout the nation. In addition to the residency program, the Psychiatry Department provides a learning experience for Nursing, Social Work and Psychology.

Building on the groundbreaking approach to healthcare reform in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, our clinical system has begun an effort to become an Accountable Care Organization based on the model of a patient-centered medical home. Our emphasis this year will be to enhance our coordination and integration with primary care and other clinical services, so our patients experience the best in comprehensive, personalized care for all of their illnesses.

The Department of Psychiatry is comprised of five inpatient units (Child, Adolescent, Adult and Geriatric) and a network of community-based outpatient services across Boston's metro-north communities that provide more than 100,000 visits a year. We provide inpatient services at both Cambridge Hospital and Everett Hospital.

Collaboration with the Chief of Psychiatry and respective Clinical Services Senior Directors, to establish, coordinate, and achieve system and unit goals is essential. The ACNO has responsibility for enhancing and integrating systems, programs, and support across the system, with a particular focus on business evaluation and development, continuous quality improvement, patient experience, and employee and physician engagement. The ACNO must be able to leverage technology to achieve system goals and to ensure continuity of care between the ambulatory and inpatient areas.

    The ideal candidate will have:

A demonstrated ability to lead an effective management and frontline team; to mentor and coach new managers and delegate appropriately to achieve departmental goals and objectives.

A demonstrated ability to establish a culture that engages staff and promotes professional growth and development with strong motivational skills to inspire, engage and empower others.

Experience with, and a genuine commitment to, a professional practice culture of accountability and collaboration focused on excellent performance in quality and safe care, patient experience, and employee and physician engagement.

Strong operations experience and an appreciation for the complexities associated with departmental-wide problem solving.

Working knowledge of current improvement and management methods such as Lean Management System

Fiscal competency demonstrated by the development and management of annual budgets reflecting staffing, capital, and other operating expenses.

Self-directed individual who recognizes and values the inter-dependencies of roles, functions, and processes necessary for success.

Proven track record of identifying and solving problems at all levels of the organization in a non-threatening and creative manner.

Demonstrated executive presence and public speaking skills, and the ability to effectively represent nursing throughout the organization, the community and at a state/national level.

Contemporary leadership, expertise, knowledge of emerging models of care delivery and research/initiatives for improving clinical practice/patient outcomes.

Strong communication, negotiation and conflict management skills.

Ability to articulate a vision and motivate others towards realization of that vision.

    Eligible for Massachusetts RN license

Master's degree; if Master's degree is not in nursing, must hold a baccalaureate degree in nursing

Ten years nursing experience with a minimum of five years progressive nursing leadership experience at the director level. At least three of the ten years nursing experience must be within the psychiatric field.
