Promotes adaptive responses of patient/family to achieve the highest level of patient care, promote safety, and maximize patient satisfaction. Exhibits compassionate care during patient-nurse interactions. Coordinates patient care and interaction of staff. Meets the qualifications to provide care for patients in their assigned nursing unit Performs duties to support the goals and objectives of Geisinger Health System in its efforts to provide quality service and patient satisfaction. Reports directly to manager or designee. M AJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: * Completes assessments as established by scope of practice and unit standards. Addresses physical, psychological, social, cultural, and spiritual needs of patient and family throughout the continuum of care. Initiates collaboration with physicians, ancillary personnel, and other interdisciplinary team members * Formulates, coordinates, and provides plan of care as established in unit standards including, patient/family education, family needs and discharge planning throughout hospitalization with members of the interdisciplinary team. Evaluates effectiveness of nursing interventions and revises plan of care based upon patient response to interventions. * Demonstrates necessary skills and knowledge to provide direct patient care including, treatments, medications, and diagnostic studies according to policy/procedure, to the age of patients served (ie neonates, pediatrics, adolescents, and geriatrics). * Performs charge nurse duties as assigned. Provides input to the manager for performance appraisals of care delivery team members. * Actively participates in education and professional development activities as well as the Magnet mission Maintains licensure and required continuing education. *O btains/maintains certification (ie BLS, ACLS, PALS, Trauma). Certification type dependent upon specific unit requirements. * Actively participates in patient quality/safety education programs and other activities designed to improve departmental and organizational quality and safety. * Interprets and follow policies and guidelines to define procedures and meet goals/deadlines. * Performs other duties as required or assigned by emergency or other operational reasons for which the employee is qualified to perform * Denotes essential job duties COMPETENCIES AND SKILLS: H EALTHCARE KNOWLEDGE- K nowledge of the operating principles, major issues, governmental regulations, and code of ethics for the healthcare industry; ability to apply this understanding appropriately to healthcare related situations. G ENERAL COMPUTER COMPETENCIES- K nowledge of and ability to use personal computers or workstations. T EAM PLAYER- M ust be able to work and communicate effectively in a team environment. I NDEPENDENT WORK- D emonstrates ability to work independently or with limited supervision. D emonstrates excellent clinical nursing skills, knowledge, judgment and leadership in a multidisciplinary environment. D emonstrates the capability of making rapid and clinically accurate decisions based on evidence based practice. E DUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE: For Registered Nurses with less than five (5) years work experience as an RN, a BSN degree is required or enrollment in a BSN program within 12 months of hire date with BSN degree completed within 4 years of hire date is required. F or Registered Nurses with more than 5 years of work experience as an RN in an acute/inpatient capacity, a BSN degree is not required. . F or current Geisinger Registered Nurses who transfer into this position, BSN degree is preferred. B LS certification preferred and required within 60 days of employment. A CLS/PALS may be required within 1 year of employment (unit specific).
