North Alabama Medical Center has an openingfor the role of Chief Nursing Officer.

North Alabama Medical Center (NAMC) wasfounded in 1919 through community efforts to establish a general acute-carefacility for northwestern Alabama. Today, NAMC is the largest and mostcomprehensive medical facility in the region, providing a full range ofinpatient and outpatient services - including northwest Alabama's onlyfull-service heart program - at its 358-bed facility and numerous physicianpractices.

POSITIONSUMMARY:

Has ultimate administrative responsibility for nursing standardsand practice regardless of the practice area or reporting relationship of thenurse. Directs hospital nursingactivities within context of hospital policies and procedures.

Ensures continuous and timely nursing services to patients.

Ensures nursing standards, practices, policies and procedures, inaccordance with all applicable laws, regulatory and accreditation requirementsare consistent with current research findings and national professionalstandards.

Directs nursing service Performance Improvement activities.

Actively participates in hospital leadership functions.

Collaborates with hospital leaders to design and provide patientcare and services, including availability of sufficient, qualified nursingstaff.

Develops, presents and manages budget for nursing services.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Develops and implements overallnursing plan consistent with hospital policies and objectives, to providecontinuous nursing care and services.

Develops, implements and interprets nursing and patient carepolicies, objectives and standards for measurement and maintenance of qualitynursing care.

Develops, implements and administers nursing services budget andexpense control system.

Prepares master nursing services staffing plan.

Organizes, directs and supervises daily nursing service to assure adequatehospital coverage and quality care.

Recruits, interviews, evaluates and hires qualified personnel tomeet patient's needs.

Participates in the development, implementation and maintenance ofthe hospital quality assurance and improvement program through evaluation ofservices rendered, quality improvement, audit of medical records, patientvisits and counsel with hospital staff.

Maintains communications with medical and administrative staffthrough participation in regularly scheduled staff meeting and involvement onhospital medical services committees.

Evaluates long and short-range equipment and supply requirementsfor nursing care by forecasting service levels and quantity of materials onhand.

Directs, plans and implements orientation and educational programsto promote staff training and development.

Recommends and participates in development of new patient careprograms for expansion of nursing care services.

Represents hospital in health care programs and professionalorganizations of associates to serve in a public relations capacity and tostimulate professional growth.

Job Requirements

Education:Master's Degree Required (MSN or MHA).

Experience:Minimum of 3-5 years of CNO experience in an investor-owned healthcareorganization. Prior experience in JointCommission preparation and survey process.

Licenses:Licensed Registered Nurse with knowledge of nursing principles, theories andpractice standards with verbal interpersonal and quantitative skills acquiredthrough completion of at least a Bachelor's degree in Nursing

Work is performed in an office environment and involvesfrequent contact with staff and the public.
